William Eggleston

Hello, how is your weekend going so far?
Can we just take a moment and appreciate the fact it is finally half term? I have long waited for this day!
I'm working on a post to hopefully be up on next week Thursday or Friday, and I'm really excited for it because I've never done anything like it!

So, this post is about my new found favourite photographer. During the holiday I went to the Tate Modern with some comrades and I found out about this photographer. Me being me, forgot his name and never really went to research it. A couple a days ago, I was going through my notes on my phone and found a random name on one of them. William Eggleston.
William Eggleston was sometimes referred to the 'father of colour' just because he had such a different and unique way of taking pictures in colour back in the 30's. Creating colour photographs was very expensive and complex back in the day- the whole process for printing colour images was called 'dye-transfer', so normally, colour photographs were only really used for commercials and adverts and things like that. So it was a surprise when William E, was creating colour photos. Not only that, but the photos were so rich and of good quality, they never faded out; they were durable.

I can't express how in love I am with this photographer right now.

Obviously I love my black and whites, but I love my simple photos too, and this guy just does it best. His photos have very simple subjects but there's something about the actually photograph that makes it seem authentic and old and vintage in a way. The fact that it's so simple just captures the natural beauty of the subjects and makes it honest and realistic. And this is just amazing for me because I have such an old soul.

He photographs a lot of dinners, normal people, gas stations, parking lots but mostly around his hometown which was in Memphis, Tennessee . He also tends to photograph a lot of cars, and honestly they just look so beautiful and classic, and it just makes me want to start a car collection!

I won't bore you with me geeking over this guys' photography, but it's just something I wanted to share cause it's amazing. And cool.

  1. Its rare to find a photo where the contrast in rich colours catch my attention. Eggleston is one vintage photographer.
